Momentum Recreation is a community Center located in Mason, OH. The design goal for this developed food service area is to create a dynamic space by shaping interior objects into flowing and curving forms as well as applying bright color on them. For instance, based on form of Cayan tower, a twist 306-meter-tall scraper located in Dubai, columns in this food service area are twisted to generate dynamic and moving perception. In addition, flowing wall decors, curving lines on flooring , and spiral ceiling panels are all applied to further incorporated into dynamic concept. The whole food service area is divided into 3 different zones based on 3 different age ranges. which include post-millennials, millennials, and baby boomers.

This food service area is primarily focus on millennials. Based on research, millennials prefer to look for expensive and modernized restaurant even though they are on budget. Materials used for millennials area are hard and reflective to generate luxury and fancy perception. In addition, they pursue highly-social experience by looking for community tables in restaurant where are sitting different groups of guests. At the same time, however, they try to find a balance between collaboration & privacy. Thus, private dining rooms in different sizes are designed for multi purpose activities such as birthday celebration and group party, in which large private dining room used to seat 16-25 users, midium private room used to seat 8-10 users, and small private dining room used to seat 4-5 users. Floor material is changed near restroom and private dining rooms to be used as way-finding.

Design children dining area as a children corner (an area in restaurant that kids can play while eating). This food service area maily focus on post-millennials, especially for children under 8 years old. To incorporate into dynamic concept, 4 acoustical ceiling panels shaped in circle form have different sizes and are colored purple. Walls with colorful teaspoons wall paper are curved to create moving and flowing feeling. Cove lights are applied for soft and welcome feeling. For safety concern, slippery-resistant LVT flooring is used. Soft pillows and toys are placed to entertain children. Each table leave a space for High chairs/feeders. Round tables are adjustable for children at different ages to use. Objects are round or curving to avert injuries.

This senior food service area basically serve for baby boomers. Flowing form ceiling with LED cove lights is designed to incorporated dynamic concept. In addition, 3D wall covering on curving area divider are used to create “moving-through” perception. Carpet is applied as soft flooring to avoid noise. 3D wallcovering used as rough surface on area divider to reduce echo. 20’ high ceilings and enough amount of windows are applied to create an isolate experience for seniors who are hard of hearing. Artificial cove light and natural light work together to give welcome feeling. Circulation patterns are created by changing floor material near entrance and exit area. Clearance between each table is 60” for wheelchair users.
